second skull. It isn’t finished but I am going to let it breath while I start the next piece.
Starting on a new piece. It’s nice to be working with pens again. I haven’t drawn anything like this for about a year or more. Line work is enjoyable but so is being messy and wild. I might add some washes at the end.

I already miss you Huell.
I never re-blog. I am making an exception. Rest well, Huell.

After months and months of toiling in Corel Painter I am so happy to have returned to Photoshop. Why can’t we have the organic feel of Painter with the amazing versatility and smoothness of PS?
I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to switch over to a mechanical pencil. All that time spent sharpening could have been spent drawing.
I plan on ordering sheets of high quality paper soon. I need to work on something that forces me to slow down and be detailed oriented. With painting I tend to become too frenetic and I don’t allow myself the patience they need. This might help me with that problem.
Trying to refine old ideas. I feel like I have never actually progressed the concept or design because I never do more than a handful of drawings each time I tackle it. I need to do much higher quantity of drawings to expand the concepts I have floating around in my head. That said, I do like the direction I am headed. I can see doing large drawings of these types of things and having them be (potentially) intriguing.
After getting back in my sketchbook I am remembering how enjoyable working with graphite can be. I might go buy some sheets of large paper and work on those instead of painting. Or go back between the two. There is something very relaxing that I get from drawing that I usually don’t when I paint. I think when I paint I get frantic and have to get to the next part of the painting quickly. With drawing I allow myself to slow down and absorb the ability to invest time in small details.
